Donald Trump inauguration: Jackie Evancho to sing national anthem
Little more than a month away from Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration, plans for the big event are starting to come together. Jackie Evancho, the prodigious opera singer who first rose to fame competing on America’s Got Talent at the age of 10, informed TODAY anchors Wednesday morning that she would be singing the national anthem at the event.
“I have recently been asked by the president-elect to perform the national anthem for the swearing-in ceremony at the inauguration,” Evancho said. “I’m so excited. It’s going to be awesome.”
Evancho is thus the successor to Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé, who sang the national anthem at President Barack Obama’s first and second inauguration ceremonies, respectively. Evancho herself has even sung for President Obama a few times, at the 2010 Christmas tree lighting ceremony and this year’s A Capitol Fourth.
