Despicable Me 3 trailer: The Minions return
Those tiny, banana-obsessed, Tic Tac-shaped, overall-wearing creatures are back.
The release of the first official Despicable Me 3 trailer sees the return of both Steve Carell’s former supervillain Gru and his small yellow Minions. Four years after the original Despicable Me became a box office hit, the threequel finds Gru continuing his adventures with Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes — this time facing off against a new nemesis.
The trailer introduces the film’s new, nefarious villain: the ‘80s-obsessed Balthazar Bratt. Voiced by South Park co-creator Trey Parker, Balthazar is a former child star who’s turned to a life of international crime (which apparently includes Rubik’s cubes, mix tapes, and moonwalking.) As one government official puts it: “That’s not a monster… That’s a man wearing shoulder pads!”
Original Despicable Me co-director Pierre Coffin and Minions director Kyle Balda are also back on board for the film, with Eric Guillon co-directing.
Despicable Me 3 is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2017.
