The 'Captain America: Civil War' star has been cast in 'I, Tonya'
The Winter Soldier is headed to the ice.
Captain America: Civil War star Sebastian Stan has been cast in I, Tonya, playing Jeff Gillooly, former husband and alleged partner-in-crime to Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie). Gillooly was a prominent figure in the plot to attack Nancy Kerrigan ahead of the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
Harding, a former U.S. figure skating champion, was accused of conspiring with Gillooly and bodyguard Shawn Eckhart to hire Shane Stant to hit Kerrigan on the right knee, in an effort to eliminate her from competition. Gillooly eventually testified against Harding and served two years in prison for the incident.
On Monday, Miramax acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the film, which is being directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Steven Rogers (not that Steve Rogers). The film is being described as an edgy comedy that will expose the “absurd, tragic, and hilarious story-behind-the-story.”
In addition to his continuing role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Infinity War, Stan will also appear in Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky and the film adaptation of We Have Always Live in the Castle.
While the role of Kerrigan has yet to be cast, EW wants to know who you think should play the Olympian.
Deadline first reported the news.
