Hairspray Live! viewers, your eyes did not deceive: two former Tracy Turnblads made cameos.

During “Welcome to the 60s,” Tracy (Maddie Baillio) and her mother Edna (Harvey Fierstein) dropped by Mr. Pinky’s Hefty Hideaway for a makeover. Who opened the door for the mother-daughter duo in the NBC event? None other than Ricki Lake and Marissa Jaret Winokur — the stars of the 1988 John Waters movie and the 2002 Broadway musical, respectively. Both of them sported the character’s signature beehive ‘do.

To clear up any confusion and make sure fans didn’t imagine things, Broadway star and behind-the-scenes host Darren Criss provided a perfect shot to confirm the guest spot. “I’m seein double! An OG Tracy Sandwich! @RickiLake and @MarissaJWinokur #HairsprayLive,” he tweeted.

Fans who caught on loved the nod. “Seeing @RickiLake and @MarissaJWinokur is giving me a big HeartBoner #HairsprayLive,” Andy Cohen tweeted.

Adds vlogger Michael Buckley: “Shout out to the brilliant cameos of the original Tracy’s @MarissaJWinokur @RickiLake #HairsprayLive.”

Lake and Winokur were impressed with how speedy Edna’s makeover took and praised their successor. “From one Tracy to another to another, Tracy: Maddie, you’re killing it!” Lake lauded.
