Yesterday brought news that This Is Us will introduce Kate’s childhood friend, played by Alexandra Breckenridge. Today’s bulletin also involves Kate.

The NBC family dramedy has tapped Adam Bartley for a recurring role, the network has confirmed. The Longmire star will play Duke, who works at a horse stable and serves as a support system for Kate (Chrissy Metz) during a challenging time.

Bartley, who also has a recurring role on NCIS: Los Angeles, will be seen on the big screen in Under the Silver Lake.

This Is Us‘ guest list also includes Gerald McRaney, Katey Sagal, Brad Garrett, Jon Huertas, Janet Montgomery, Sam Trammell, and Jimmi Simpson.

NBC will air the midseason finale of the show tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT. According to series creator Dan Fogelman, the episode has a “dramatic, life-and-death weight to it.”

Deadline first reported the Bartley casting news.
