And vice versa!

There was nothing funny about Jack doing push-ups with young Randall on his back on This Is Us last week, but, somehow, when Milo Ventimiglia recreated the scene with Ellen DeGeneres on his back, it was downright hilarious.

The chuckles started when The Ellen DeGeneres Show host pulled out the photo of Ventimiglia in the recent PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive issue. The pair soon mocked the image of him eating Chinese food, fixing his hair, and “accidentally” showing off his bulging bicep.

“I’ve gotta say, you’re a fit guy,” DeGeneres noted. “When I’m hugging you, you’re like solid.” That was her segue into a conversation about the moving scene on This Is Us.

“[Randall] has a moment where he gets to connect with his father and remember and recall this moment where his father, his adopted father, literally carried him on his back and showed him that he will be there for his son for his entire life as he can, and so we did a bunch of push-ups,” Ventimiglia explained. “And then, backstage, we thought, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be funny if we put Sterling [K. Brown, who plays adult Randall] on my back and see how many push-ups I can do?'”

After explaining how that led to a round-robin of family push-ups, Ventimiglia suggested it was DeGeneres’ turn.

The host was no sweat for the “fit” star, but things got a bit more interesting when they switched positions. See for yourself in the video below.

This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
