Chicago Fire creator teases episode 100
It’s no coincidence that tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire is called “One Hundred” — it’s the show’s 100th episode, after all. Needless to say, we can expect some big things from this installment, especially since it doubles as the winter finale.
And the show’s co-creator, Derek Haas, was certainly feeling the heat when it came time to craft the episode. “I think we were as anxious as we were excited that the stars lined up and we got to do it this way,” he told EW.
Still, the episode had to remain focused. When asked if there were any specific episodes from the past that informed this one, Haas pointed to two.
“The end of the pilot was Dawson [Monica Raymund] looking out the hospital window at Casey [Jesse Spencer] as he’s talking to his then-fiancée on the phone, so we’ve had them be two ships crossing and then getting together and then crossing and then getting together for four and a half years,” he said. “And then it’s really like 99 of ’em of Severide being a womanizer, being kind of fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants in terms of emotional connections. He loves but he loves quickly over four and a half years. We thought, ‘Let’s have him have a rare moment of introspection.'”
Haas also promises a speech that “says all the things we wanted to say to the crew and the cast and our viewers.”
Chicago Fire‘s 100th episode airs tonight at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
