Stephen Colbert jokes about Donald Trump's dinner with Mitt Romney
Sounds like Stephen Colbert had a good Thanksgiving. On his first show back Wednesday night after a holiday break, Colbert informed viewers of a helpful tip: “If you bury your face in the pecan pie, it absorbs your screams.”
It seems that President-elect Donald Trump’s antics may be starting to drive the Late Show host a little batty. The latest example was Trump’s dinner with Mitt Romney, a potential candidate for Secretary of State even though he spent the election denouncing Trump as a “phony” and a “fraud.” This hypocrisy rankled Colbert, who got a little edgy with his jokes about it.
“I bet those frog legs taste a little bit like Trump’s —-,” Colbert cracked, causing bandleader Jon Batiste to remind him, “Woah, woah, woah, this is CBS!”
Colbert showed a viral photo of the dinner, which features Trump grinning ghoulishly (“I’m glad they shot that from the waist up, because he seems very happy,” he cracked). Romney, for his part, looked hilariously awkward in the photo, but Colbert couldn’t joke about it much before devolving into slack-jawed stupor at the ridiculousness of it all.
“This is kind of how I feel all the time,” Colbert said. “I find myself making that face a lot since the election.”
He then briefly walked off stage muttering, “What’s happening? What’s happening? I don’t know what’s happening.”
