Remember the mortuary scene in The Silence of the Lambs when an eagle-eyed Clarice Starling notices that a serial killer’s victim has something stuck in her throat? Imagine an entire film of such horror — and detection — and you’ll have some idea what to expect with The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
Director André Øvredal’s belated follow-up to his terrific Trollhunter stars Brian Cox (the original Hannibal Lecter) and Emile Hirsch as father-and-son morticians who make the terrible mistake of agreeing to, literally, look into a mysterious corpse (Ophelia Lovibond) one dark and stormy night.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe is released in theaters and on VOD, Dec. 21.
