It sounds like Ryan Reynolds was better suited to play the Merc With a Mouth than the Mayor of MacDougal Street.

In a recent Variety video featuring Reynolds and Taraji P. Henson, the Deadpool star reveals that he once bungled an audition with the acclaimed sibling filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen, presumably for their Greenwich Village folk dramedy Inside Llewyn Davis.

“I auditioned and failed for the Coen brothers,” Reynolds says in the video, alluding to their second most recent film. “It was terrible. It was OK, it just wasn’t the right fit, unfortunately. Mostly because they’re very high-class.”

Employing his signature self-deprecating humor, Reynolds adds, “In the room, they were just quietly shaking their heads. Like, ‘What are you doing here? Do you have a SAG card, or do you have the Canadian version?'”

Not one to leave a fellow actor hanging, Henson reveals that she once auditioned for the lead role on the hit ABC series Scandal, which ultimately went to Kerry Washington. “Thank God Kerry got it,” Henson says. “It was her job.”
