Ja Rule and Ashanti are back to once again mesmerize fans thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda. The duo behind “Always On Time” and, yes, “Mesmerize,” collaborated on the Hamilton Mixtape track “Helpless,” which dropped to streaming services on Friday.

Performed in the Broadway musical Hamilton by Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth “Eliza” Schuyler during their courtship, “Helpless” was actually already an homage to those classic Ja Rule and Ashanti tracks, according to Miranda.

“I do have to say when Ashanti and Ja Rule sing ‘Helpless,’ it will give you all the feels, as the children of the Internet say,” Miranda told Conan O’Brien during an interview on Conan last week. “When I was writing that song, I was picturing it as Ashanti and Ja Rule. Eliza’s Ashanti, Hamilton’s Ja Rule.”

Miranda said the two artists even came to the show together. “And that night when I was doing that rap, I just did the whole thing in my Ja Rule voice,” Miranda said.

“Helpless” is the latest song from the mixtape to arrive, following Kelly Clarkson’s “It’s Quiet Uptown,” Sia’s “Satisfied” featuring Queen Latifah and Miguel, and Usher’s “Wait for It,” among other tracks. The full album is out Dec. 2.
