Dave Chappelle will release 3 new comedy specials for Netflix
Dave Chappelle is teaming up with Netflix for three new stand-up specials.
The streaming provider announced Monday that Chappelle and director Stan Lathan will produce an original stand-up comedy special for Netflix. The comedian will also release two never-before-seen shows from his “personal vault,” which were filmed at Austin City Limits and The Hollywood Palladium. All three of the projects, which represent Chappelle’s first concert specials in 12 years, will be released simultaneously in 2017.
Chappelle recently hosted the first post-election episode of Saturday Night Live, which delivered season high ratings. He created and starred in the landmark sketch series The Chappelle Show, which ran for three seasons on Comedy Central. Over the past three years, he has performed over 500 concerts and in 2014, he did 10 consecutive sold-out performances at Radio City Music Hall.
“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix’s vice-president of original documentary and comedy, in a statement. “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix.”
