Sharon Jones, a force of nature in soul and funk, died Friday at 60 years old after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. The relentless performer captivated fans with her nonstop energy, powered by her backing band, the Dap-Kings.

Fellow musicians and many in Hollywood paid tribute to Jones on social media after her death was announced.

“The fabulous Sharon Jones has passed tonight she & her band The DapKings made great music together & she sang her butt off. Condolences RIP,” actress Whoopi Goldberg tweeted.

“My deepest condolences 2 the family of [Sharon Jones]. She was the real deal in this industry,” Chaka Khan mourned. “2016 you’ve been awful.”

Vella Lovell from Crazy Ex Girlfriend also remembered the powerful singer: “No, not #SharonJones too. This is absolutely heartbreaking. She was 1 of my favorites. There must be a symphony happening in the afterlife.”
