Amy Adams is one of Hollywood’s best actresses, having been nominated five times previously for an Academy Award. And she might score a sixth thanks to her work this year, either for Arrival (where she plays a talented linguist) or Nocturnal Animals (where she plays a dissatisfied art dealer). Thursday night’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert added another contender: Adams emotive work in Eyebrow Theater.

Okay, so it’s not an actual movie, just a recurring sketch host Stephen Colbert likes to do with certain actors. But Adams sold it, believably internalizing the fear of not knowing someone’s name and the frustration of differentiating between the words “flammable” and “inflammable.”
