Rae Sremmurd's 'Black Beatles' hits No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100
This is Rae Sremmurd's first song to claim the top spot on the singles chart
“Black Beatles” became the biggest hit of Rae Sremmurd’s career thus far when it hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 on Monday, dethroning The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s “Closer,” which topped the Hot 100 for 12 weeks.
“Black Beatles” featuring Gucci Mane is Rae Sremmurd’s first track to make it to No. 1; just last week, it jumped from No. 16 to No 9, after seeing a huge increase in streaming on both Pandora and Spotify. That streaming spike was largely due to the track’s inclusion in the Mannequin Challenge, a viral phenomenon in which people are filmed posing in outrageous positions all while remaining motionless. “Black Beatles” usually plays in the background.
The rap duo recently spoke to EW and explained why they thought the song soundtracked the viral craze: “It’s the best song out! It has a good mood to it, and the world is just appreciating that song. When it comes on, it makes you feel a certain vibe. You really pay attention to what’s going on. You see everything that’s going on… it feels like you’re frozen, that something big is about to happen. When the beat drops, it’s perfect.”
