The iconic Christ Church Hall, home to the Great Hall in the Harry Potter films, caught fire Saturday.
The Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue service reported a hot plate started the blaze that burned for an hour before the team was able to put it out. There have been no reported injuries due to the fire.
The details of the damage and breadth of the fire is unknown, however one hall staff told Cherwell they “didn’t see any fire but there was a lot of black smoke.”
The main Hall at Christ Church at Oxford University acted as the aesthetic inspiration for the Great Hall in Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Other parts of the grounds were used as filming locations as well, including a 16th century staircase used in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone when the students first arrive at Hogwarts, and when Harry first meets Hermione and Ron.
