Oscars 2017: Best Animated Feature contenders revealed
- Movie
With the major success of films such as Finding Dory and Zootopia, it’s safe to say that 2016 was a good year for animated films at the box office. So much so that the Academy has announced that a record 27 features have been submitted for the Best Animated Film category for the 89th Academy Awards.
The Academy rules state that, depending on the number of submitted films which qualify, only two-to-five features will be voted into the nominations. And, in order for the category to receive its maximum amount of five nominees, 16 or more films must qualify.
Films submitted in the Animated Feature Film category may also qualify for Academy Awards in other categories, including Best Picture, so long as they meet the requirements in those categories.
Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 24. Read the list of the animated films submitted below.
