Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus shared a text he sent to his 14-year-old son Jack the day after the election, in which Republican nominee Donald Trump won against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Hoppus posted the screenshot of his text message to the band’s Twitter page prefacing it with, “Text to my son, as much for myself as for him.”

“I know we’re all upset after the election last night,” Hoppus writes. “I hope you’re not disheartened.” He advises his son to “take this sense of frustration and anger and use it for something good. We are right on the edge of changing the world for the better, righting many wrongs that have existed for far too long.”

He praise his son’s generation saying, “Your generation is the one who can make the world a much better place.”

Hoppus offers some final advice and hope for the future writing, “Remember how important is to vote…and how much positive change you can affect in the world.”
