Jessica Chastain leading Painkiller Jane adaptation
Call Jessica Chastain Painkiller Jane.
The Oscar-nominated actress has teamed up with Lotus Entertainment and Solipsist Films to produce and star in an adaptation of Painkiller Jane, the graphic novel series from Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, a Lotus spokesperson confirmed to EW.
The Zero Dark Thirty star will appear as the titular Jane Vasko. Originally a cop who’s undercover with the mob, Jane sustains life-threatening injuries. She recovers due to unknown powers and gains extraordinary recovery abilities. The life of proper police dissipates in lieu of one of vigilantism.
Painkiller Jane has been adapted a pair of times before. The 1995 graphic novel series was made into a Syfy Original Movie in 2005, leading to a 2007 series on the same channel. It lasted one season and 22 episodes.
Chastain is due to play another strong woman this month. She plays the eponymous anti-gun lobbyist Miss Sloane in the thriller due Nov. 25.
Lotus’s Lenny Beckerman will produce Painkiller Jane with Stephen L’Heureux (Sin City: A Dame To Kill For) of Solipsist Films. Chastain will do so with her production company, Freckle Films.
Deadline first reported the news.
