Laura Benanti appearing on Stephen Colbert's election special
Plus: Colbert's opening monologue will be live streamed on Facebook Live
Stephen Colbert will have quite a few special guests on his Showtime election night special — including one very familiar face.
Laura Benanti, who has impersonated Melania Trump on The Late Show, is set to appear on Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going To Clean Up This S—?, EW has confirmed. However, it’s not clear if she will reprise her impersonation.
The news comes hours after the Trumps provided late night hosts with more inspiration for material. While casting their ballots in New York City Tuesday, Donald Trump was seen peering over Melania’s booth, seemingly glancing at her ballot. Images of his look have since gone viral. Plus, moments earlier, Donald was booed outside the polling station as the couple arrived with their family.
Benanti’s impersonation of Republican presidential candidate’s wife has been one of the late night highlights this election year. The Tony Award winner, who debuted her hilarious impression over the summer, returned to The Late Show in October to poke fun at interviews Melania gave in the wake of several women accusing her husband of sexual misconduct. (The GOP candidate has denied all of the allegations.) You can watch Benanti’s most recent appearance below:
The one-hour special, which begins at 11 p.m. ET on Showtime, will air live from The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City, and Colbert’s uncensored monologue will be streamed via Facebook Live.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to report about Benanti’s appearance.
