John Oliver, Jaime Camil get fired up in pyramid scheme parody
John Oliver tackled pyramid schemes with the help of a familiar face on Sunday, enlisting Jane the Virgin actor Jaime Camil to warn Americans about these companies.
After sharing his research on multi-level marketing companies, Oliver said he wanted to do something about the problem. “What can we do? Because good, hard-working people are going to keep getting caught up in these companies. There has to be a way to tell the world about the dangers about MLMs,” he said. “And I think I know the perfect distribution network. And that is why tonight we are starting our own pyramid scheme, #thisisapyramidscheme. Because if someone you know is thinking about joining an MLM, this is a huge opportunity, and let me show you how it works.”
Oliver presented a dog — yes, a dog — as scientific proof that his video works and pleaded with viewers to “share the video with five people, and then instruct them to send it to another five people, and so on and so on and so on.”
He continued: “Within 14 cycles, every single person on Earth will have seen this, to the point where we will need to start f—ing to create more people to watch it.” That’s when Oliver realized Beyoncé might actually see his video if it’s shared that much. “Hello, Beyoncé,” he said, trembling. “I’m a really big fan.”

But the real highlight came when Oliver introduced Camil to help spread the word to the Latino community. “We will be uploading two versions of this video to YouTube, with one in Spanish,” Oliver explained. “But because I do not speak Spanish, it will be subtitled and this portion will be performed by Jaime Camil from Jane the Virgin.
“You are clearly a more attractive version of me in every way, aren’t you, Jaime?” asked Oliver.
“Yes,” Camil replied. “Yes, I am.”
