Tracy Morgan forgives the Walmart truck driver who hit him
Tracy Morgan doesn’t bear any ill will toward the Walmart truck driver who crashed into his vehicle in 2014 — but he can’t say the same for some of his new neighbors.
“I’m not mad at him, I forgave him,” the comedian tells Conan O’Brien in a clip from Thursday’s episode of Conan. “But you know who is mad at him? All my white neighbors.”
Amid audience laughter, Morgan summons mock anger: “If you hadn’t hit his ass, he wouldn’t be living next door to me!”
The 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live alum also tells O’Brien that since relocating his home, he’s been enjoying leisurely rides in his Lamborghini. Asked how fast he drives, Morgan replies, “30 miles an hour, so everybody in the neighborhood can see.”
Morgan has been steadily returning to the public eye since his June 2014 accident, which occurred when a truck struck his limousine van from behind on the New Jersey turnpike. The crash killed Morgan’s friend and mentor James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, left Morgan in a coma, and seriously injured three other passengers.
Morgan settled a lawsuit against Walmart in May 2015 and first returned to the stand-up stage a year ago. He is currently on tour, has a role in the upcoming movie Fist Fight, and is working on an FX comedy pilot with Jordan Peele.
