Most late-night hosts have signature bits; James Corden has his Carpool Karaoke, Jimmy Fallon has his various games. Jimmy Kimmel has a few, too, including one that only comes around once a year: compiling video of parents telling their kids they ate all the Halloween candy. On Monday night, Kimmel displayed the results of his annual YouTube challenge

This year’s edition did not disappoint. Some of the kids freaked out in response to the claim mom and dad ate their candy; several literally fall down. Some tearfully declare that they hate their parents, while others make it clear the candy wasn’t all important to them. “Well, I’m not mad,” one girl told her mother. “I’m not happy, but I still love you.”

Unlike in previous years of doing this, Kimmel now has a Trick-or-Treat age kid of his own, so this time he shared his own video of telling daughter Jane he ate her candy. It didn’t quite work; Jane just told him “no” every time he suggested he ate her candy, and then declared that she wanted pancakes. “I’ll try again next year,” Kimmel told the audience.
