Could Supergirl‘s Alex be The CW superhero show character who will be exploring her sexuality this season?

This summer, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg — who works on The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow in addition to Supergirl — revealed that a character on one of the shows would explore their sexuality and come out, but declined to reveal who.

During last week’s episode of Supergirl, Floriana Lima made her debut as DC Comics character Maggie Sawyer, an openly gay cop whose chemistry with Alex (Chyler Leigh) was off the charts. Could Maggie potentially help Alex come out? To note, in the first season, Alex didn’t have a relationship with anyone in particular, though there was some flirtation with Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli).

Ahead of the CW Superheroes panel at EW PopFest on Saturday, we pressed executive producer Greg Berlanti on the budding dynamic between Alex and Maggie, and while he didn’t directly confirm Alex as the character who will be exploring her sexuality, he did offer a glimmer of hope.

“If people suspected chemistry, they’ve got good instincts,” Berlanti told EW. “I love that people are already really invested in their dynamic. If they are, they’ll hopefully continue to be really pleased.”

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
