Outlander: How Claire almost killed Dougal in season 2

If the executive producer of Outlander had his way, Claire would always be the “badass” on the Starz drama, admits author Diana Gabaldon.

So when the writers were preparing to kill off Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) at the end of season 2, the original thought was to have Claire (Caitriona Balfe) do the fatal deed — even though Gabaldon’s Outlander book series dictated otherwise.

In this exclusive clip from the Season 2 Blu-ray (dropping Nov. 1), executive producer Toni Graphia reasons why they thought the heroine should do it and not her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan), who does it in the books.

“[Claire] rescues Jamie just as much as he rescues her,” argues Graphia.
