Warning: This story contains major spoilers from Thursday’s episode of Pitch. Read at your own risk!

The trade deadline may have been the heartbreaking engine pushing Thursday’s episode of Pitch, but it was the flashback reveal that was most enlightening.

When Ginny (Kylie Bunbury) was in high school, she actually found a guy friend she could relate to, Jordan (Parker Croft), who moved around a lot in his youth and whose father was an alcoholic that never made it to any of his baseball games. Therefore, Ginny’s father Bill (Michael Beach) implored Jordan’s dad Ray (Reston Williams) to make it to the championship game. In a drunken stupor, Ray slammed his car into oncoming traffic, specifically Bill’s car, causing the death of Ginny’s father — the heartbreaking moment revealed in the premiere.

At this point, Falls says, there are no plans to see Jordan again — for instance, during Ray’s trial or even in present day through Ginny’s travels — “but that could change,” the EP adds.

Pitch airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
