Game of Thrones: Why you shouldn't believe every season 7 spoiler
The set of Game of Thrones season 7 has been leakier than The Wall on a hot summer day.
There are rumors galore online, ranging from “sources say” plot leaks to actual photos and videos snapped of the production in Spain and Northern Ireland (for those who actually want to have the Emmy-winning drama series spoiled months in advance).
But all of it should also be taken with a grain of (bread and) salt.
Last year, once photographers started snapping shots of the set, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss took a visiting former Game of Thrones actor, Sibel Kekilli, who played Tyrion’s ill-fated lover Shae, and dressed her up in costume and put her out on the set to get photographed. Many sites quickly ran stories claiming Shae would somehow make a return in season 6. She didn’t, of course. The whole thing was a ruse specifically to throw off spoiler reporting about who might be alive and coming back (since Kit Harington was also spotted on set in costume).
Going into season 7, a big question is who will meet whom now that all the main characters are arriving in Westeros. So having actors dressed up meeting each other on set could mean they’re in scenes together … or it might not. Remember, the showrunners are known for their elaborate pranks. We’ll find out for sure next summer when Thrones returns.
