Logan: Wolverine movie teases Dafne Keen as X-23, aka Laura Kinney
There’s been a lot of speculation that X-23, the adamantium-clawed female clone of Wolverine, would appear in Logan. Now, we have our first piece of official information.
The Instagram account for the film released a black-and-white portrait of Dafne Keen, the young actress who appears in the Logan trailer. The caption reads, “Laura,” seemingly confirming that she’ll play Laura Kinney, a.k.a. X-23.
In the comics, a secret organization attempted to recreate the Weapon X experiment, the same excruciating procedure that imbued Wolverine with his signature adamantium skeleton. Unable to find a test subject capable of surviving the experiment, they decided to create a clone of Logan. That clone was Laura Kinney, who was raised in captivity to become a ferocious weapon with two-pronged claws instead of Wolverine’s three.
X-23 became a fan favorite, and X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer even teased during an interview with Fandango that he pitched Fox on the concept of a female Wolverine. The Logan trailer all but confirmed Keen as the character when Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier called her the “cub” to Wolverine’s “lone wolf.”
Logan, directed by James Mangold, features Hugh Jackman as the titular mutant alongside Boyd Holbrook as Pierce, Stephen Merchant as Caliban, and the villainous Reavers. The film will hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
