Chris Pine is facing a whole different frontier.
The Star Trek star is the latest to join Ava DuVernay’s (Selma) adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, set to play the husband of Dr. Kate Murry (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) as Mr. Murry, EW has confirmed.
The Murrys are the doctoral parents to the precocious teen Meg (Storm Reid) and 5-year-old Charles Wallace in the family sci-fi adventure. In Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 novel, it’s revealed Mr. Murry has gone missing after working on the tesseract, a space-time travel device.
Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling have already signed onto the movie to play Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Who, respectively, three immortal celestial creatures who accompany Meg on her adventures. DuVernay will direct based on a script penned by Frozen co-writer Jennifer Lee.
Pine last appeared in August’s western crime thriller Hell or High Water, a month after returning to Star Trek‘s captain’s chair as James Kirk.
Deadline first reported the news.
