Alec Baldwin chooses Charlie Brown for President, urges young people to vote
You’re a Good Man, Alec Baldwin!
With the presidential election right around the corner, it’s a vital time to focus on the issues…and which member of the Peanuts gang can lead the country. Actor Alec Baldwin, whose current Donald Trump impressions on Saturday Night Live have cemented him as part of this historical election, threw his support behind the unluckiest block head around, Charlie Brown.
In a PSA for the Peanuts Rocks the Vote campaign, the 30 Rock star recalled his first encounter with the baseball loving character. “I met Charlie Brown when I was, well, his age, and I discovered someone who wanted the same things I did, and was as anxious about achieving them as I was,” said Baldwin. “If he’s running for President, I’m voting for him.”
The Peanuts Rocks the Vote campaign encourages young people to register to vote for the Nov. 8 election, while also setting up each of the beloved Peanuts gang for political awareness. In addition to Charlie Brown, his iconic best friend Snoopy, the bossy but encouraging Lucy Van Pelt, the blanket-obsessed youngster Linus Van Pelt, his sister Sally Brown, and sleeper hit Franklin round out the choices. The website explains the platform for each “candidate” and also offers a handy link to register for the main 2016 election.
Baldwin joins an impressive list of celebrity endorsers for the campaign and the future of voting. The Talk co-host Aisha Tyler, Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure, The Middle actress Eden Sher, Dead of Summer actress Elizabeth Mitchell, Transparent star Melora Hardin, and the The West Wing’s vice president Tim Matheson have also cast their vote in Peanuts PSAs.
