Ice Cube and Kevin Hart should prepare for another Ride Along. Director Tim Story, who helmed the first two films, revealed in a recent interview that plans for Ride Along 3 are already in the works.
“We’re writing the script right now, we’re writing away and basically, I’m waiting to see some pages and we’re excited for the idea and what it can be and of course bringing Kevin [Hart] and Ice Cube back together because they are the greatest odd couple in the world,” Story told The Wrap. “I’m impatiently waiting for a script to be given to me. We have some great ideas.”
Despite poor reviews, the first Ride Along set a new January opening record when it premiered in 2014. It has since grossed $154.5 million worldwide. Box office numbers for the sequel ($124.3 million worldwide) weren’t as impressive, though it helped dethrone Star Wars: The Force Awakens from its top spot.
The films introduced Hart as Ben Barber, a security guard with dreams of becoming a cop who tries to prove his might by riding alongside his future brother-in-law (Ice Cube), a veteran in the field. Ride Along 2 saw them reuniting to take down a drug dealer in Miami.
Universal did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
