Westworld (TV series)

A flurry of updates from Delos.

First, we have a bunch of new photos from episode 3, titled “The Stray” (below). Shots include Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) meeting in the Westworld founder’s clue-filled office; Elsie (Shannon Woodward) and Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) going out on the range; and Teddy Flood (James Marsden) accompanying a new character, a guest named Marti (Bojana Novakovic).

There’s also a couple cool new Westworld posters that HBO mocked up for New York City Comic-Con. Both riff on the original 1973 feature film’s iconic Gunslinger character played by Yul Brynner.

There’s also some ratings news from across the pond: The series premiere of Westworld in the UK drew an even bigger audience for Sky Atlantic than the series premiere of Game of Thrones — 1.8 million. That might not sound big compared to U.S. ratings, but it’s the channel’s most-watched series debut ever.

Stateside, HBO’s ratings keep piling up. The Westworld series premiere is up to 6 million viewers including streaming, DVR, and on-demand. The second episode is up to 2.7 million so far — as you’ll recall, HBO put the episode online early to get it away from the second presidential debate. It’s not clear yet what the trend line will be for the series, but Sunday gives the show one more clear-ish weekend before AMC’s The Walking Dead starts putting the Sunday night hammer down on Oct. 23.

Westworld showrunners made headlines telling Comic-Con they were already working on season 2 which is no surprise — this show is getting renewed, it’s just a matter of time.
