The stars of ABC’s new comedy, American Housewife, clearly are ready to face pretty much any challenge after just how swiftly they managed one we gave them.

When Katy Mixon and Diedrich Bader stopped by EW to talk about the series, we threw in a little twist: They had to describe the show using six random words that they pulled out of a bowl. Almost none of them are words we would use to explain the show about a family facing its imperfections in a wealthy town in Connecticut.

But Mixon has no problem explainging her character, Katie Otto. “She lives in a surreal world where she is authentic and the family is authentic living in an inauthentic world.”

Bader, who plays her husband, Jeff Otto, turns out to be even more of a pro at the game. “[It’s] about this family a little older than millennials for example, but they’re really truly heroic in a certain sense because they go into this environment and they really proved themselves to be above it.”

At the end of the day, Mixon thinks the show is about accepting yourself for who you are. “Everybody deals with heartbreak. Everybody deals with not being the right person or not being the best you can be… but it celebrates who you are. It really doesn’t matter what gender or what walk of life you come from.”
