When Shadowhunters returns for its second season, we know the action is going to pick up right where season 1 left off. (We also know fans can expect more Malec.) And now, we finally know when we get to continue that story.

During the show’s New York Comic Con panel on Saturday, they announced season 2 will premiere on Monday, January 2. According to a press release: “In the January 2 premiere, the Shadow World is in upheaval as Valentine and The Circle continue to grow stronger by the minute, while our Shadowhunter team quickly becomes disillusioned with The Clave and their reaction to the recent events. Loyalties will be tested, unlikely bonds will be made and relationships will be pushed to the limit as the Shadowhunters and their Downworlder friends make their way in a new world.”

Additionally, the panel announced that Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley is joining the show in season 2 to direct an episode. Check out the video Wesley made below:

Shadowhunters returns Monday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
