Top of the Lake season 2: Elisabeth Moss returns in new image
The critically acclaimed drama returns in 2017
It’s been three years since we first and last saw Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss as Detective Robin Griffin in Sundance drama Top of the Lake, but the network on Wednesday released its first image from the upcoming second season that features Robin looking ready to solve some crimes.
The critically acclaimed first season aired in 2013 and followed the case of a pregnant 12-year-old girl who goes missing. David Wenham, Peter Mullan, Thomas M. Wright, and Holly Hunter also starred in those episodes, while Jane Campion is credited as both the co-writer along with Gerard Lee and as the co-director with Garth Davis.
Top of the Lake went on to win Moss a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film. It also won an Outstanding Cinematography Emmy, and was nominated for seven others, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.
This new season — which features Nicole Kidman and Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie — will be set four years after the season 1 finale and revolves around the death of an unidentified girl whose body washes up on the shore of Sydney’s Bondi Beach. Campion will continue to co-write with Lee, although she’ll now be co-directing with Ariel Kleiman.
Top of the Lake‘s second season debuts in 2017 on SundanceTV and Hulu in the U.S. and on BBC Two in the U.K. See the first image above.
