Oliver Queen has reverted to his criminal-killing ways in season 5 of Arrow.

When the CW super series returned, Oliver (Stephen Amell) offers no mercy to the slew of baddies he faces, falling back on his original M.O. of taking no prisoners. Why? Because of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy).

During the hour, Oliver explains that he had several chances to kill last season’s big bad, Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), but didn’t. If he had, Laurel would still be alive. Now, Oliver is taking no chances — especially since the SCPD is so corrupt.

Speaking of Laurel, a flashback in the premiere revealed what she told Oliver before her untimely death: She begged him to make sure that she wasn’t the last Black Canary. That way, a part of her will always be out there with Oliver, and her legacy will live on through other heroines.

It’s all in service of Arrow exploring Oliver’s own legacy in season 5 — and part of the reason Oliver finally relented to training Star City’s new vigilantes after Team Arrow all but disbanded. His new team will include Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez), Ragman (Joe DiNicol), Artemis (Madison McLaughlin), Curtis (Echo Kellum), and eventually, maybe, possibly… another Black Canary? We’ll see.

Now the question remains: Who’s this new villain Prometheus that’s haunting Oliver? Get the scoop here.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Billionaire Oliver Queen — under the vigilante persona of Arrow — tries to right the wrongs of his family and fight the ills of society.
