Archie Comics’ recent revamp has happened basically at the same time The CW has been developing Riverdale, the TV adaptation of the property. Now, the two are finally coming together, thanks to a Riverdale tie-in comic series that Archie Comics announced on Wednesday. The comic will be written by the show’s writers (led by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa) and illustrated by Alitha Martinez. It will begin with a one-shot issue, set to hit early next year, followed by an ongoing series.

Although it will include the main Archie cast (Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Kevin Keller), the Riverdale comic will be set in the universe of the show, which is a slightly different world than that of even the newer comics.

,p>According to Archie Comics, the show focuses more on “the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade;” Riverdale‘s stars and producers have both compared it to Twin Peaks.
