Kal Penn took a moment from playing a fictional White House speechwriter on Designated Survivor to watch the real-life vice presidential debate between Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia and Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana on Tuesday evening.

The actor tweeted a photo of him and costars Natascha McElhone and Adan Canto observing the discussion from the set of their ABC political drama.

“Watching the real #VPDebate from the fake #DesignatedSurvivor Outer Oval set,” Penn wrote.

Penn is no stranger to the White House, having served as an associate director in the Office of Public Engagement under President Barack Obama. Check out his tweet below.
