Black Panther adds another foe for Prince T’Challa to face.
Marvel has cast Winston Duke as one of the upcoming movie’s villains, M’Baku, EW has confirmed. The Person of Interest actor joins Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, and Danai Gurira in director Ryan Coogler’s (Creed) project.
M’Baku, also known as Man-Ape, has been a frequent enemy of Black Panther since his 1969 introduction in the comics. Like T’Challa (Boseman), M’Baku is another one of Wakanda’s finest and strongest warriors.
Duke — a relatively new actor with Major Crimes and Law & Order: SVU credits to his name — joins Jordan as a party against T’Challa. Jordan is playing the mysterious Erik Killmonger, painted in the comic canon as regularly at odds with T’Challa.
Boseman made his Black Panther debut in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year. After his father T’Chaka is killed, T’Challa is tasked with ruling Wakanda as his successor.
Written by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther is set for a Feb. 16, 2018 release.
