Vox Lux: Rooney Mara to star in pop star drama with music by Sia
Rooney Mara is stepping into the pop star spotlight — with a little help from Sia.
EW has confirmed that the Carol star has signed on to star in director Brady Corbet’s drama Vox Lux, which chronicles 15 years in the life of a pop star named Celeste, beginning in 1999. Sia is also on board to write all original songs for the soundtrack.
Known for his role as an actor in films like Thirteen, Melancholia, and Martha Marcy May Marlene, Corbet made his feature directorial debut with last year’s The Childhood of a Leader, which starred Robert Pattinson and picked up two awards at last year’s Venice Film Festival.
After earning an Oscar nomination earlier this year for her role in Carol, Mara will next star in another awards contender: Lion, which stars Dev Patel as a young Indian man who uses Google Earth to find his family 25 years after being separate from them. She’s also set to appear in Netflix’s The Discovery with Jason Segel and Robert Redford and in the upcoming Mary Magdalene biopic.
Shooting on Vox Lux is expected to begin in February 2017.
