While the internet remains heartbroken over Angelina Jolie’s filing for divorce from Brad Pitt, Whoopi Goldberg has taken a biting approach to covering news of the demise of one of Hollywood’s leading power couples.

The longtime View co-host reported on the divorce using her signature affected Valley girl voice, mocking coverage of the couple’s breakup during the first half of Tuesday morning’s show.

“Before we start… don’t laugh at me. Something has happened in the world I just feel so upset about,” Goldberg said. “Just before we went on the air, some news broke on TMZ [which was] also corroborated by CNN — and that’s really corroboration — that after 12 years together, two years of marriage, and six children, Angelina and Brad are breaking up.”

Goldberg pretended to cry as the audience gasped.

“According to all those people — and of course, we always believe everything they say — there’s irreconcilable differences,” she said. “It’s just too much.”

Panelist Jedediah Bila responded: “When I saw them together and I saw the causes they represented and fought for, it seemed like the bodies didn’t just meet, but the hearts and minds met, too, so when you see them crumble, you think, ‘Man, this could happen to anybody. Anybody can crumble,’ and it’s sad. You watch them grow together. You feel like you know them sometimes.”

After speculating on possible reasons for the divorce (Behar jokingly insinuated infidelity played a role), Goldberg took a sarcastic jab at the media.

“There’s not always [a third person], but she filed,” Goldberg said. “Who knows, but people felt it was important that we bring this news to you.”

Watch Goldberg discuss the couple’s breakup in the video below.
