Though David Bowie’s Blackstar lost the Mercury Prize on Thursday to grime star Skepta’s Konnichiwa, Michael C. Hall paid homage to the late star with a stirring performance of “Lazarus” during the ceremony.

Backed by a full band, Hall sang the track in front of a massive screen portraying different scenes from the “Lazarus” music video, harrowing clips that depicted Bowie on his death bed.

Hall has performed the track on Colbert, and starred in the play during its Off-Broadway run in New York last year. He’ll also open the show when the production heads to London’s West End in October.
