Adele remembers Amy Winehouse on the late singer's birthday
Adele remembered beloved late singer Amy Winehouse on what would have been the “Rehab” singer’s 33rd birthday Wednesday. “Happy Birthday Amy,” Adele tweeted with a “X” for kisses and a picture of a youthful and happy Winehouse.
Amy Winehouse died of accidental alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27 after a struggle to stay sober. Winehouse’s story was recently retold in last year’s stunning documentary Amy, which looked at how fame and notoriety affected the British star. Since her death, the Amy Winehouse Foundation erected house for recovering female addicts in her memory.
Adele previously referenced Winehouse’s tragic story as a cautionary tale to herself. Adele told Rolling Stone, “watching Amy deteriorate is one of the reasons I’m a bit frightened.” She recalled seeing that fame can be “really toxic, and I think it’s really easy to be dragged into it.”
