Dark, sexy, mysterious, and sultry, the Fifty Shades Darker trailer has finally arrived, giving an extended look at the escalating – and complicated – romance between chaste college grad Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and BDSM-loving businessman Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).
Based on the 2012 bestselling novel by British author E.L. James and helmed by director James Foley, Fifty Shades Darker follows last year’s Fifty Shades of Grey, which grossed $570 million worldwide. Adapted for screen by James’ husband, Niall Leonard, and revolving around some of the issues that Anastasia and Christian face as their relationship grows more serious — like the fact that Christian distrusts Ana’s new boss, while Ana learns that Christian still keeps in touch with an older woman whom he slept with as a teen. Fifty Shades Darker features returning actors Marcia Gay Harden as Christian’s mother, Rita Ora and Luke Grimes as siblings Mia and Elliot, and Max Martini as Christian’s trusted bodyguard Taylor, while Victor Razuik and Eloise Mumford make their return as Jose and Kate, Ana’s college friends.
Fifty Shades Darker sees the addition of several brand new cast members, including Kim Basinger as Christian’s experienced ex-lover Elena Lincoln, Hannibal’s Hugh Dancy as psychiatrist Dr. John Flynn, Eric Johnson (The Knick) as publishing honcho Jack and Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin, who plays author Boyce Fox.
The trailer debut follows Universal’s release Monday of a teaser trailer and film poster, which gave fans their first look at Ana’s glamorous mask — and a dramatic masquerade ball.
Fifty Shades Darker whips into theaters Feb. 10, 2017.
