It’s been almost four decades since Robert Redford and Jane Fonda last appeared on screen together in The Electric Horseman, following famous collaborations like The Chase and Barefoot in the Park. Now, the pair are reuniting for the new Netflix drama Our Souls at Night.
Netflix has announced that principal photography will kick off on Monday on Our Souls at Night, the adaptation of Kent Haruf’s novel. Fonda and Redford will star as Addie Moore and Louis Waters, a widow and widower who’ve lived next to each other for years. The pair have almost no relationship, but that all changes when Addie tries to make a connection with her neighbor.
Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) is directing from a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, and Our Souls at Night also stars Bruce Dern, Judy Greer, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Iain Armitage.
“I’m looking forward to teaming up with Jane and working with the talented Ritesh Batra,” Redford said in a statement. “Our Souls at Night is an endearing story and I’m happy we get to share it with a broader audience.”
Production will start Monday in Colorado, where the novel is set, and Our Souls at Night will premiere on Netflix in 2017.
