Quantico star Li Jun Li has traded in the FBI for Chicago P.D.

Featured in the just-released photos for season 4, the actress joins the cast of the NBC police drama as beat cop Julie Tay, who lands at P.D. as Burgess’ (Marina Squerciati) partner after a relationship with a police commander (Ian Bedford) turned sour.

“We have Tay coming in with her baggage,” EP Matt Olmstead tells EW. “It’s a story that was told to me by a female cop, who dated a captain and when the relationship went south, the captain went into punitive mode and moved her; she was a patrolmen to like the worst district. Tay’s got a brick on her for the last year, writing parking tickets in front of the courthouse, and just trying to survive and hope this goes away. As it turns out, it takes a couple episodes and help from other people on the show to get that brick off of her, but she’s relieved to be a cop once again.”

Among those who help Tay include Platt (Amy Morton), who goes to bat to get Tay assigned to District 21, and ends up “locking horns with this commander, who is the one that broke the brick on Tay because of spurned advances,” Olmstead says. “Platt takes a big risk in saving this girl’s career and also going toe-to-toe with this guy.”
