Anne Hathaway open to a Catwoman spin-off
After years with no female superhero-led films, the tide is beginning to turn. With Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel on the way, now Anne Hathaway says she’d be interested in suiting up again for a Catwoman spin-off.
During an interview with Variety, the actress was asked if she would be opposed to reprising her The Dark Knight Rises role. “Of course not,” she said. “I love that character so much and I had such a blast playing it.”
Despite her interest, Hathaway isn’t sure if such a project is possible considering the Batman franchise has already moved on to a new iteration. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that,” she said. “So I don’t know, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”
With the change of direction in the DC Universe, Hathaway adds that she would help guide the next actress, should she be replaced, since she doesn’t feel ownership over the role. “I don’t think you can,” she added. “It sort of goes with the territory when you accept it and receive it from the last Catwoman. I was shown such generosity from Halle [Berry] and from Michelle [Pfeiffer], and so I would do that the next time as well.”
Hathaway can next be seen in Colossal, which premiered Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival.
