Internet dreams were shattered on Tuesday when news broke that Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston had ended their relationship. This duo, affectionately known as “Hiddleswift,” had provided many a picture-perfect moments over the summer months, but the romance appears to have ended with the season. Stephen Colbert seemed to speak for everyone when he took to the Late Show stage on Wednesday night to announce that “Hiddleswift has called it Hiddlesplits.”
“I’m especially sad about this because their love was in the press so much, I thought I was part of it,” Colbert said. “In a way, it feels like they broke up with me.”
To prove it, Colbert took out a guitar and sang a song about the end of Hiddleswift, just as fans might expect Swift herself to do one day.
“Think of all our memories, like kissing on that rock, or climbing on that rock, or walking on that rock,” Colbert sang as Photoshopped images of Hiddleston, Swift, and the host himself played in the background. “Man, we spent a lot of times on rocks.”
