Canadian six-piece the Strumbellas are masters of oscillating between the dark and light. On their 2016 album Hope, frontman Simon Ward paired musings on failure with sunny chords and bright acoustics; messages of despair came in the form of enticingly singable hooks.

So for their latest release, the video for album cut “We Don’t Know,” it comes as no surprise that they’ve hit the funny bone for a song about what do to when you’ve found yourself in a pit of hopelessness. (Answer: Still hope.)

“The video was inspired by the kinds of classic video games we used to play as kids,” band member Jon Hembrey says of the concept. “We wanted a video that was a little more on the fun side, something that lets us laugh at ourselves and has sweet special effects.”

“We Don’t Know” is streaming below. The Strumbellas are currently on tour. A full list of dates is available on the group’s website.
