Eddie Murphy may have welcomed his ninth child in May, but it seems his kids aren’t great at keeping him in the loop on pop culture.
During a stop by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, the actor admitted he wasn’t very familiar with One Direction — you know, the mega-successful boy band that’s been ruling the radio over the last five years.
“Y’all cannot imagine me sitting at home saying, ‘Put on One Direction for me,'” he said. After host DeGeneres scolded him for not knowing what’s going on in the world, he retorted with a sarcastic remark: “One Direction? I love One Direction. That is my favorite group. The singing and the dancing and the look.”
DeGeneres went on to inquire about Throwback Thursday, another trend Murphy wasn’t familiar with. She then brought out an old black-and-white picture of him flexing his right arm. “Where did you find that funny a– picture?” he asked, astonished. “That is hilariously funny. Is that me? Is that my head on someone?”
